Good Icebreaker Activity For Event Mgmt Course

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I'm teaching a college course for juniors and seniors in which they have to totally plan and host an event for 250 kids(parents in attendance). This is the only course in their major where they get actual experience. Students will be in charge of everything (time line, PR, logo design, marketing, budgeting, designing activities, etc..) To get students out of the usual, "I just want to take tests/write a paper and get an A mode" I need a phenomenal fun icebreaker-type activity that teaches leadership, group dynamics, project commitment.....

All suggestions welcomed!

There were some interesting ideas offered in this Q&A thread just last week.

I'm not sure how many times a question similar to yours has been posted here. Check out the Search Questions link on the right side of this page, and try the keyword "icebreaker."

Also, look at the bottom half of that page for search hints to really dig up the good stuff here!

I've used different activities and games from these two books (got them on Amazon) : "The Complete Games Trainers Play" by Scannell and Newstrom; and "Team Games for Trainers" by Carolyn Nilson. There are loads of organization and leadership activities in there.

Also, I will direct you to my absolute favorite icebreaker thread from a long time ago. It's called "A Box Story":
