Mba Marketing

I am an engineer with a 4 year work ex in a software company. I am thinking of getting admitted to a bschool in USA to pursue MBA in Marketing.

What are my prospects? Is it common for an engg. student to do his marketing into MBA?

I think you are definitely heading in the right direction. Your software engineering experience coupled with an MBA can open many doors....especially if you plan to market your own software!

Marketing studies can enhance ANY career. They help you understand what goes on behind the scenes of business in general.

Go for it. Educate yourself and try marketing some software, or applying for an exec level position in the marketing dept. of a big software firm. You will not regret it!

    Good Luck!

I agree with Jett - having an engineering undergrad and work experience plus an MBA is a very powerful combination. I live and work in Silicon Valley, and many posted job openings for etch companies that I see here ask for this combination.

That was suposed to be "tech companies", not "etch companies". Sorry about that.

I am an engineer with an MBA and highly recommend that combination, regardless of what you plan to do. Understanding the business underpinning of what you do is critical to career success, in my opinion.

There are a few universities in the United States that actively seek engineers and science majors for their graduate business programs. I'd suggest looking first at those schools. The ones that come to mind are MIT, Carnegie-Mellon, and Purdue. I'm sure there are others, but these are top-of-mind for me.

Of course, the competition is heavy for the top business schools. You'll need to have some fall-back options lined up.
