Web Analyser And Customer Behavior Model:

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I want to segment my online users based on behavior.
I have a web analyser then I do know the recency and the frequency of their visits and more but I am not able to cross the data.

Any ideas on segmenting online users based on behavior ?

At the end of the day, I want be able to say:
Based on the following behavior variables I have 2 or 3 or 4 segments.

We are using Hitbox.

Thx

    Hi Damien,

I’m sure HitBox offers a way for you to segment visitors according to their visits to your site using cookies. For example, visitors to your site’s "About Us”" section could be labeled first-time viewers, while visitors to "Account Information" could be classified as customers.

Respondents to signing up for your e-newsletter or to download a white paper could be grouped as other defined segments – prospects in the first stage of your sales funnel or whatever category you use for that stage of conversion.

    Make sense?

HitBox is a powerful and complex tool, like all software and ASPs, you never really know all there is to know about using them and you are going to have to help it out as in the examples above.

WebSideStory also offers some pretty good training, it might help to check this out or at least contact them and see what direction they point you in.

I think you have the product, you just might need some help in understand its full capabilities.

    I hope that helps!

    Damien

PepperBlue makes a very good point about digging deep into Hitbox to fully understand its capabilities.

However, I wonder if your question might be more about how you should seek to segment YOUR website visitors, rather than how you could find that information based what Hitbox tracks.

Can you tell us the URL for the website?

What segments do you use for offline customers? (If any)

With a bit more info we may be able to point you the right way.

    Hi Damien,

Chris and I are both on the same page but it seems like maybe we aren't seeing your picture?

Quite simply, what we are saying is that you have to define on your website the ability to click or otherwise respond to a call-to-action of your possible/existing customer/prospect segments based off of offline behavior segments you already have and then let your reports from HitBox help further guide you to your analysis and decision-making which will include mining any other data from those reports.

For example, if you know your offline segments, migrate the ability to clickthrough on those segments to your website (this is where you have to gather your resources and strategize) which will lead to qualify and quantify if your online behavior mirrors the offline behavior.

    I hope that helps!

Wait, Damien, are you saying you have offline segments that are behaviour based? Or characteristic-based? Which?

    If behaviour based, what behaviours?

    If characteristic based, what characteristics?

What is the website you want to get these metrics from? i.e. www.???.??? because if we can go look, maybe the picture will become more clear to us.

Don't worry if the website is non-English, we just need to be able to look around at the bahavioural opportunities to gain some additional understanding that is currently missing from our thinking.

    Merci
