Web Site Advice Would Be Greatfully Recieved!!

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am no internet or computer expert and spent nearly three months making this website, so it probably has loads wrong with it. The site has been up and running for just over a year and I just dont seem to be attracting the customer, although I have had a fair amount of traffic come through. My web site is [inactive link removed]. If you could critique the overall look, feel, flow etc. that would be wonderful.
I would be forever greatful. Thanking you in advance.

    Hi Temba,

It looks like you do very nice glass work!

I would use a different font than "copperplate gothic bold", stylized fonts for the most part should not be used in website design, they are just too difficult to read. Stay simple.

You might want to put your images "above the fold" so that they are visible at all times.

Make your navigation bar horizontal across the top and you will gain a lot of valuable screen space to do so.

Get rid of the underlined text if it is not an active http link. This only confuses people because they expect underlines to link through.

You have a number of broken navigation links and you have a "404 not found" from your gallery link on the home page.

To attract people to contact you offer them something very compelling. I don't know understand your business to know what that could be offhand, but you need to engage them so you can keep in front of them periodically, they might not be a customer now but in the future they could be.

You might want to also give people an idea of what your costs are, if they are shopping this alone could compel them to contact you but typically people don't like to email or call for pricing when they are in the early stages of shopping on the Internet.

I hope that little bit helps!

    Hi tembaglass,

You site does not look correct in firefox, (keeping in mind that firefox is almost 20% of all browsers :P)

here is what it looks like:

    https://img78.echo.cx/img78/6303/brokensite6ak.gif (62kb)

Don't put "Thank you for visiting our web page." that so is 1990's.

Centring text is very BAD. It makes the text hard to read and look bad.

Your site is two wide, it is wider than 1024 pixels, there is no need for it to go that far because you have about 30 pixels space on the left hand side.

Get rid of the Font tags and use CSS.It will make the page faster to load AND make your page easier to maintain.

I also see you are using a "netter.com" template. You don't have to PAY money for good templates, You can go here and get FREE templates www.oswd.com .

I hope that you are also know that if you put a font such as Bradley Hand ITC as one of the display fonts and the person viewing your site doesn't have that font installed they will NOT see the nice font, they will only see Times Roman because the browser will default to it.

Make your logo smaller, it is a bit to big.

There is a lot of redundant code in your source. There are over 50 errors on your page:
    https://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tembaglass.com%2F

Firefox is not as forgiving for code errors as Internet Explorer. That could by why it doesn't render correctly.

I didnt look at the rest of the pages as i suspect that the same problems will be with the other pages and i dot have much time.

    Have a nice day

    Carl Crawford
