Taking Www.datejb.com To The Next Level

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
HI,

We created a website to help our friend find a girlfriend. What started out as a fun project has now garnered some interest. The Boston Globe is going to run a story on us. I'm interested in people's opinion of the website and how we can make it a brand that we can monetize...much like what JibJab was able to do. Look forward to your responses.

Thanks,
Joe

    Hi Joe

interesting site for a very interesting and innovative cause ;-)

let me give my thoughts on the navigability of the site, i would not comment on the content of the site, let the ladies do ;-)

    1. there is a promotional band of Yahoo at the bottom of the page and thats fixed, so it reduces the viewable area of the site. it would be better if its not there.

    2. your site is too broad to be viewed in a 15inch monitor(i currently use that). so i had to use both the horizontal and vertical scroll bars. unless everyone in Boston/New England uses 17inch monitor, i suggest you to make the page fit to screen size.

    3. i like the DateJB poll section. i am sure if Boston Globe covers a story, then thats how JB will come to know of the site.

although i mentioned not to comment on the content, i cant help...

    1. what about JB's real name, apart from this nickname. you are asking ladies to give their name in the form but you dont tell JBs name.

    2. i am not sure, IMHO, more details about JB and his job, family and hobbies might be helpful in convincing ladies. also some pictures of him with his family are needed.

now regarding how to market/brand this site, some ideas apart from the Screensaver....

    1. you make some merchandise and sell those via the web with a home-delivery process.

    2. how about a DateJB friendship band, thats a craze now-a-days.

    3. you can make T-shirts, Baseball Caps as merchandise

    4. where do the 22-35 yr gals frequent most. print and paste some posters in those places.

    5. get the local radio station to talk about the site and the merchandise.

    hope that helps.

    cheers!!
