I am writing my honours year dissertation and I plan to combine my summer placement work with my dissertation topic. My summer placement is in a nanotechnology company and my degree is management and marketing. How can I combine nanotechnology and marketing to make a relevent dissertation topic?
I hope you can shed some light on my problem. Thank you.

Nanotechnology has such a wide open market because it is a building block technology! Pick an application area and write about the market as defined by the current technology used, the "new" market with nanotechnology and how it enables new applications, new customers, better satisfies the customers. From a theoretical basis, you can discuss the effect of substitute/revolutionary technology on a market place - like the automobile and airplane did for transportation, like the computer and internet has done for commerce, etc. Then you could predict what might happen in market/application areas with nanotechnology.

    Hope this helps.

Well, a nontechnology company is a B2B company so you could show how you would write about how you could market it in a B2B market. "public" perception would be the people using the technology, not the consumer. It's not a Proctor and Gamble type product. You aren't going to advertize on TV. So, you could write about the process of marketing it, sure. You could also do a paper on establishing brand for the nanotech company. That would be an interesting and different topic.

    Good luck!

A lof of companies in high tech industries invest heavily in R&D and leave out marketing or building any business plan. You can write about importance of the transition between pure research to building a sustainable business model that actually brings profit.
