Which phrases in emails do American workers dread the most? Which days of the week are most draining for work emails? What tone do they want in an out-of-office email?

To find out, researchers at Zero Bounce surveyed 1,000 professionals in the United States.

Respondents say the most stressful phrases in work emails are "Need this ASAP" and "Can we chat?"

Workers say the subject lines most likely to make them avoid their inbox are "Re: [No subject]" and "Quick chat?"

Respondents say Monday is the most stressful day for receiving work emails, and Friday afternoon is the most stressful time.

Workers say the ideal tones in out-of-the-office (OOO) emails are minimalist (just the return data and backup contact) and professional/to the point.

About the research: The report was based on data from a survey of 1,000 professionals in the United States.
