Which platforms do most desktop web searches happen on? Which platforms have been increasing their share of searches? Which platform types have the highest share of searches?

To find out, Sparktoro examined 4Q25 data from Datos covering millions of desktop devices in the United States. The researchers looked at search volume data for 41 popular domains across a wide range of verticals, including traditional search, e-commerce, AI tools, and reference sites. The researchers found that 95% of the US desktop web searches examined occurred on seven platforms: Google, Amazon, Bing, YouTube, ChatGPT, DuckDuckGo, and eBay.

Google alone was responsible for 74% of all the web searches in the data set.

The researchers found that among the top seven platforms for desktop search in the US, Amazon, Bing, and YouTube increased their shares of search volume most significantly in 2025.

Some 81% of the desktop web searches examined still occurred on traditional search engines, 10% occurred on e-commerce sites, and 5% occurred on social networks.
