The content that rises to the top on Google search and on various social media platforms is determined by algorithms.

However, not all algorithms are the same. Google's algorithm prioritizes certain signals and each of the major social platforms has its own algorithm that prioritizes its own signals.

Although the exact makeup of the different algorithms isn't known, there is a general sense of what each values most. An infographic (below) from Neil Patel, which was included in his annual Search Engine Rewind, covers the differences among the major algorithms.

Specifically, it looks at the signals prioritized by six of the most used platforms: Google, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and Facebook.
