In biker terms:
When a group of riders attack, gaining time on the main bunch, the escape group is known as a 'breakaway' - they are 'breaking away' from the other riders.


The Starting Gate or Energy Cental, or Caffiene's
Keep your energy moving - dont get Bonked

Bonk
Otherwise known as 'hunger knock'. It is a reference to a rider running out of energy and being unable to continue at their current pace. This is usually because a rider does not eat enough while riding to maintain their energy stores.

Get in and out FAST

Dismounts
When entering an area of portaging, riders are forced to quickly get off their bikes and run with them. Elite cyclo cross riders will practice their dismounts on a regular basis to ensure these are fast and fluid, with minimum time or energy wasted.
