Seo, I Made Minor Changes And Not At Top.

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
For a couple of years my site, https://www.geercom.com/, was at the top of Google for the keyword phrase technology writer.

I decided that technology journalist was more accurate and have been using that, but I am not even in the top 30 now.

Please take a look at my home page and tell me what's wrong. Is it having the big bold tag line in the H tags? Is it having technology journalist mentioned too many times? These are the only things I have changed from what I had before. So, please be prepared to talk about these things.

Thank you,
D

    Hi David,

There is so much that goes into search engine rankings, it is definitely a huge topic. First of all, I'm sure you know this, but you dropped out of the rankings for 'technology writer' because you changed the phrase on your webpage.

It takes a while to show up in Google for another phrase, so time may be the main cure, but it is likely you still need to do more to rank for 'technology journalist.'

Kathleen is right, one of the important elements in Google is Page Rank, which is largely determined by the number of links you have pointing at your page. What those links say in their link text also seems to be important.

It is critical to keep in mind that Google is attempting to rank you based on relevance compared to the other pages it finds for a particular keyword. That's why the rules seem to be different all the time. A mix that gets you ranked for one keyword and one set of competing pages may not be what works for another keyword and set of competing pages.

The best way to build a plan of attack is to see what the other pages that rank in the Google top 10 for your keyword are doing. See what their page rank is (install the Google toolbar to do this), and analyze the density of the keyword on their page, then try to match what they have done.

That approach will at least assure you that you are doing what has worked in the past for competing web sites, then you can continue to strategize and take action from there.

I have a free keyword density analysis tool on my web site that will show your page versus another page. It is a great tool for comparing one page (pick a competitor in the top 10) versus one of your pages.

    Good luck!

tried to get on your site, but it was down, try a bit of research into the term "high technology writer" it has more clicks, can't advise anymore at the moment, will check back later

Had a look now, have to rush out, but all your tags on each page are the same, each page is it's own index and the tags including the title should represent the content as such.
It's a good a place to start as any

    Enjoy
