Finding Clients

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am a new graphic design agency. So far I am a one person show. I am a graphic designer that is well rounded in this business. What is the best way to find clients and jobs? I am stuck on the computer working on the jobs I bring in, but I need them to be coming in when I am working on jobs. Starting off, I am not in the position to hire an ad. rep. or pay for expensive advertising. Please help me come up with a solution. Thank you.

Do you have a website or any examples of your work I can view online?

I agree with JBtron - you must, without fail, spend one hour each day looking for new business - you can do graphics design work at night and on the weekend, but you must reserve that hour of prospecting time each day...

... and when you finally do become truly too busy with billable work, call me. My business is spending an hour each day on the phone for clients, finding them business.

If you get permission from the CLIENTS, you should be OK in displaying the work you did at another agency.

I am an artist myself, so I feel your pain. So what did I do? Exactly what "reshansaed" suggested.

If you want some constructive criticism, let me know. If you would rather it be private, you may send me an email.

Have you ever thought about WEARING your work? Be your own bumper sticker, and get your best friend, your mom, your yoga instructor and such folk to do the same.

I found www.zazzle.com a long time ago, and I think it's a terrific idea/resource. It's a service that lets you upload your own images that they produce on shirts and posters. You can order as few or as many items as you like, but best of all, other people can "shop" your private or public collection. Zazzle pays you a commission, too!

I used it myself and was surprised at the high quality of the results and the speed of delivery. (Also surprised that anybody found and purchased my goofy creations... plus oddly proud of the whopping $17 earnings!) You could end up with some walking conversation pieces and a bit of word-of-mouth exposure. Cheap advertising!

I think you need to udate your website graphics and add a portfolio for others to see what you can do.

Your ad work is great and viewing such can be a deciding factor for many firms.

Also, be aware there is more to marketing than ads. You offer "complete" marketing for a couple hundred bucks. Most seasoned clients will question just how how much marketing they get for so little money.

Which bring me to targeting. If you are targeting the DIY, new home business folks who only have a few hundred bucks to spend, your online presence (brand) is exuding just that. However, if you are looking to attract larger clients, you should reconsider you own marketing methods.

Again, I think you are a talented artist with great potential!

    Good Luck!
