    SEO for this category is a mega waste of time. The good words cost too much, and there are a lot of folks bidding on them. Focus on CRM and repeat sales than pie in the sky search engine marketing...you'll be better off investing your time and money in real customers than chasing prospective ones.

    Warren, congratulations for understading that most customer now do research online before they actually buy anything, it is a great first step.

    I would recommend that any of my clients in this situation did the following:

    1. Bid on all terms listed (and probably more!) ... if you don't, a competitor will and will take your prospects. Don't do a blanket CPC modify according to budget and where you need to be placed for a sponsored ad (to be honest I've had great results from position 3 with the use of better ad text than companies above me).

    2. Use SEO to get a top 10 rank for the top terms in the list (click in my name and URL for details of how I can help here).

    3. Remove the keywords from PPC on the successful SEO terms.

    4. Monitor ROI closely for each keyword.

    If you are going to use AdWords, I would suggest revamping it. I've spend more than 5 min trying to understand what is that exactly that you sell: marketing campaigns, lead tracking services or promotional products. The only way customer would know is if he or she calls you, but who has the time for it?

    It can be difficult, but you just have to do the sums.

    If you can work out how much an average order is worth, then you know how much you can spend in total to get a new customer.

    It's then just a case of weighing up how best to achieve that aquisition goal (online or offline).
    You should know what has worked well in the past.

    If you feel like online is a good move for you, then consider SEO, PPC, Email, Affiliates, Partnerships etc

    Warren,

    Unless you have really deep pockets, PPC is going to be tough for you to get ahead. I recommend direct marketing, with email being the cheapest form of direct marketing. Also SEO optimization may be a better way to go. See my profile for direct mailing lists.
