Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hello friends
i'm a new member. signed up for the first time today
I have a doubt. How do i decide the structure of an organisation. They now have no structure. They are a software development company. There is currently a CEO, VP operations and GM tech under ceo and then all teams like networking team, web hosting team etc under GM tech. the next level are the software developers
I'm making a new structure for them. They're planning to have resellers in 6 cities in the country and have deals to sell products overseas
The VP operations is taking care of HR, and operations right now.
and he doesn't want a new HR manager
He wants to continue doing his job
He says he wants me to have a couple of project managers and leaders as well

please help me asap

thanks
veena

I agree with Puru, you have a classic organisational structure:

    - Sales - contacts sales team
    - Marketing - developing brand and collateral (sometimes merged with Sales into Sales and Marketing).
    - Operations - Service Managers, support functions (IT, HR etc)
    - Finance - keep a tabs on company finances
    - Product Teams - your development staff

Although you only have 60 employees, my feeling from what you are saying is that you expect to grow quickly. Bring on new dealer will put pressure on sales and marketing, and also operations to support this expansion.

Remember what you suggest, may change, thats the nature of business. You may decide that sales, marketing and your online team could come under a "Commercial" team from day one, but as they expand, grow and become more complex and specialised, move under new VPs, or 'Heads Of'.

I think you have enough data here to give yourself a head start and start to suggest particular structures, the presentation in the link I provided gives you the pros and cons too to help you :-)

I'm pleased you got a good experience from MP, we aim to please.
