Transfering Project Clients To Retainer Clients?

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Our agency is currently trying to position ourselves in a more consultative role. We have found over the past few years that clients have trained us to become their vendors and in doing so, they don't get our best.

We have just gone through the process of restructuring how we service our clients to position us as their marketing partner rather than a vendor.

We are new to this site and wonder if other's have faced this same dilema and what they have done about it?

Look forward to your responses.

This is a huge problem for me as well. It is quite rare to find managers (especially in high tech companies) who are willing to commit to a long-term investment in marketing.

One option I'm personally considering is to offer a broader range of services and reporting for clients who agree to long-term engagement. I may call my project-oriented or intermittent clients "bronze level" or some such, and offer additional services for silver, gold, or platinum level clients.

My thought is that this will help manage expectations, and encourage folks to think long term, while still offering a lower entry point for folks testing or trying my services.
