Many websites depend on paid advertisers for survival. For example, this site, although it has a paid membership option, generates much of its income from the companies who pay to place ads in on the site and in the newsletters.

Recent studies have shown a general consumer discontent with current advertising methods. Most people feel marketing and advertising have gone too far...especially with pop-ups and spam.

However, speaking of legitimate ads, this is the only way the consumers can be made aware of company benefits, new updates, specials, etc. So we have a "Catch-22" or "stalemate".

Conscious and considerate Web Advertisers are toning down a bit in order to respect the consumers and avoid being labeled among the "cheap and sneeaky" companies who blast you with ads no matter what.

In spite of the overall negative consumer studies and the decrease in how much companies pay for web ads, they continue to be fruitful. Web ads will always be around, just like TV and Radio ads. The internet is relatively new and still learning how to balance advertising with consumers response. In the end, again, ads may change tactics, but will always be around.

    I hope this helps!

    Good Luck!

    Hi laxhminarayan,

A lot of the success depends on how relevant the advertising is to the wants and needs of those visiting the website.

For example, if you look at the ads served by this site, they are all relevant, and targeted at people who have marketing wants and needs.

As I look now to my right I see 1 ad for "Better ROI", and 2 for "Customer Satisfaction", not ads for Viagra and home mortgages and deals on trips to Acapulco or New Zealand.

So, as soon as I hit "Post My Message", I will go visit these sites because they hold the promise of possible value to me.

    I hope this helps!
