Company On Television; What Do We Wear?

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
A group of employees will be answering phones for a big local fundraiser, and we will be shown on television, but not interviewed. Our goal is to be recognized as a group and to show our sense of fun- without having to say anything while we take donations over the phone. We are a market research company, but this takes a bit more than company shirts with our logo. And if it helps, our main color is orange...
Any thoughts? Has anyone done this in the past?

I would use a simple rule of thumb, dress like you would if you were going to be on the front page of the newspaper. Even if you are not interviewed, you will most likely be introduced by a voice over, or the occasional reference tossed your way. Your visual image is going to reflect your company, so dress like you would if you were going to be featured on the front page of the newspaper.

Check out Diane Schwartz's blog for some very vauable advice about how your image forms people's perceptions about you. https://winningimageseminars.com/?p=21

Note the last paragraph...I think it realy goes to the heart of the matter.

Can you string a banner with your company name along the front row of phone bank tables? Sometimes the charity will let you do this in exchange for your volunteerism.

They should also mention your company name on-air when they thank you for helping out on the phones.

If you have the budget, you could also offer to do a corporate match for donations that come in during your phone time--and then the hosts will mention your company's name on-air in every plea for support during the hour.

I understand your need for more than a shirt with a logo, but I think you have to be careful not to outshine the Charity Event/Organization.

    My suggestions are:
    - Use a T-shirt and put the company name and logo as big as possible on the front and on the back (as you'll probably be seen mainly from far away). Dark blue with orange sounds good to me.
    - Create sturdy tent cards in the same colors and place them in front or next to the phones - with your company logo and the person's first name. Every caller loves to know who they are talking to and it will probably carry over into your business - it's like having celebrities answering the phones.
    - Invest in a professional make-up artist to do the make-up so that nobody has a shiny nose or smudged mascara.

    Hope this helps, regards

I do think that a creative name/logo tent in front of each person would stand out. If your logo is easily recongnizable make it as large as possible. If not, add your company name.
Also, in lieu of having shirts made, you could have badges made that could just be pinned to the shirt. May be more cost effective.
