Alpha Translation Services Websie - Need Critique

Posted by NatashaChernavska on 125 Points
Dear Colleagues,

We have just updated the website. We worked hard to make it as good for SE too. I would really appreciate all thoughts and opinionds about it.

It will be translated into several foreign languages soon. So far it's just in English.

Please, have a look:

Amy makes some very good points. I however, was not so put off with all the info you had on the main page. I think because the site has a very clean design and the most important information is on the top above the browser cut off line.

Anyway, the best way to determine how people will react is to test and analysis the log files. Better yet get this site on Google Analytics so the process is easier for you. Create a couple of landing pages using Amy’s ideas and test. See what happens.

I am impressed with the design and all that HTML copy will be attractive to search engines.

Your site is very "flat", both in design and in structure.

In terms of design, you need to add boxes or backgrounds to the key sections of the home page to create a dimensional appearance.

The structure is flat because you have provide all information on the main page. You should reduce the content on the main page to key topics. Then add pages within the site for those key topics.

    Other suggestions:
add links on your home page to key items. The only links you have are for the menu items.

make your menu items more obvious. put > or other link identifiers so users know it is a navigation point

check your english = your tagline in the upper right hand corner is not grammatically correct. Consider "We go the extra mile....." in your copy "the" is missing.

find other organizations who will link to you. Alexa analytics site only shows links to you from three sites. Your site will not come up in search engines very well this way.

    I like it...
It quickly tells me what you do... it answers most of my questions immediately...

And, it gives me some reason to come back with the bablefish..

If I were you, i would work on other reasons to come back to your site. I believe you want people to bookmark you for later reference too...

    Natalia,
Just a quick note—along with the comments above, the tagline graphic in the top right of all the pages "we go extra mile to bring the world closer to you" doesn't really make sense. This is a typo that needs to be fixed, because it looks like a botched translation. ... not so good for a translation services site.

Some really picky stuff - just dotting i's and crossing t's sort of things, but since this company offers translations which are proofread by two editors to ensure accuracy—the site REALLY needs to be free of typos. I didn't look through all the text, but these are a few of the things that jumped out at me.

    1. Front page: Press-releases should be Press Releases, or use a more current terminology, News Releases.

    2. All pages: in the form section, the text reads "Please, submit a detailed ..." (take out the comma for correct sentence construction.)

    3. About Us: "Because of our efficient and sophisticated business model Alpha Translation Services. provides the highest quality language services, ... " (should not have a period after the company name)

    4. About Us: "Web-Design" should be Web Design

    5. If you don't use alt tags with your images, at least put alt=" " so text readers won't get stuck on every image, reading out the filename of the image.

The site has a really great, professional look. I think with just a few adjustments it would be even better. ...

    Best Regards,

    Jennifer
