Help!!!! Student Bar Promotion

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
hey there,
i am managing a student bar in a university. open from wed to fri, from 12noon. Age group: 18 to 30; male loves beer and beer does not make much money; female prefer wine/champagne/cocktail.

exam and holiday is coming soon and summer is going to end soon. but still lots keg beer left. so we need to sell those keg beer asap.

also, the sale is not as good as it could be. Wed is dead, Thurs is better, and friday is the most busy day.

any idea to do student bar promotion?

Promote Ladies nights, Ladies drink free from 9-10pm, promote 2 for 1s or even offer 3 for ones for an hour, sell the glass cups with the beer--for example they purchase a beer and for an extra 2 bucks they can keep the up, than they pay less for the refills. If your just looking to get ride of the kegs you can offer bottom less beer for 2 hours one night for a certain price. Around here we have karaoke nights, poker nights, fight nights, college game nights. It really depends on what type of bar you are but look at offering cheaper beer specials than your competition--college kids will spread the word about it. You just have to market it right....maybe print up some flyer's and pass them around on campus, or get a giant sign for a couple days changing your specials. Also around here we have half off beer and half off appetizers for a couple hours on certain nights, you can offer either of them or both. Hope that helps ya

To get rid of the beer and fill up on Wednesday have quarter beer night. (use to be 10 cent but inflation) and you will sell more beer than you can imagine. But better have cabs standing by to take the drunks home.

    Have fun.

Be a Punk & Get Drunk

I like the idea of tying it to a high margin item

Free Beer with any purchase of XYZ. XYZ could be other drinks, merchandise or food.
Even a buy one beer, get one free.

Better to give it away than throw it away.

    Good luck

You should have your beer linked to food specials on the Wednesday to increase sales as I know students like cheap food. Buy a beer and get 50% off an appetizer.

    Have "Toxic Thursdays"...

If someone buys two wines, they get a third one for free (from 6 to 12 PM or something like that).

You could do the same thing for beer. See if your beer provider has gadgets (in Belgium, they have and are willing to give them for free if it promotes their brand) and set up a gig like: five beers = free t-shirt, ...

As for your wednesdays, try to have a "themed" day/night. Movie Star night with a red carpet, classics playing on a tv screen, popcorn; Cowboy Night; ...

I also like the idea of tying into food specials, and as ethnicomm pointed out, be sure to check on your rules for promoting alcohol, especially before exam time -- that seems like it could stir up some controversy particularly in the wake of so many drinking-related student deaths and injuries lately. I know you want to make the best profit, but the university wants students to do well on those finals...

thank you for your help and great ideas indeed!
yes, should be very careful about alcohol promotion. We are actually giving students free juice if we want them slow down.
I do think the buy two wine or shorts get one free tag beer can work.

yes, we are doing sport night, and local bands is coming next week, hope live music can help.
