List Selling Points

Posted by art on 50 Points
I am looking for a list of 'generic' selling points - I specifically need it for a shopping mall right now. Can anyone help with some good articles I could read or make a few suggestions? The type of points I'm looking for are:

- ample secure parking
- relaxed modern environment
- quality products & services
- safe secure shopping

I know that this is unorthodox and that each client is unique and has specific selling points and that I would need to give you a whole list of info about this specific shopping mall but I really do just want random/generic selling points which I could use for anything from a shopping mall to real estate agents to the local café on the corner. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    There is no such thing as "generic' selling points. The value proposition should be specific to the vendor and the customer.
    What does the customer want or need and what can the vendor supply.

    Try asking some customers of the shopping mall why they shop there and what they like and don't like about the mall. Then do that for every client.

    Thanks Harry but I did say “I know… that each client is unique and has specific selling points blah, blah, blah” so perhaps I should go about this differently…

    *****************************

    I would like to build a database of selling points which are generic in nature - by this I mean that they could be used successfully to apply to a range of various products.

    I would prefer them to have 3 words, like

    - ample spacious parking

    - relaxed modern environment

    - diverse quality products

    - safe secure shopping

    - friendly efficient service

    If anyone has any lying around or knows where I can find a list of some, I would be grateful.

    Okay, I think I get it now: You don't need a list of omnipresent selling points, all of which would apply to every possible client. Instead, you are compiling a list of selling points from which to pick and choose only those relevant to any given client.

    So from a long list of possible selling points, you might pick 7 for client A and another 15 for client B, etc. I suppose this is meant to save you some typing time (via data merge) when preparing sell sheet copy?

    I really like your starter list. Hmmmm...Try these:
    * professional attractive landscaping
    * neat tidy appearance
    * easy handicap access
    * established brand image
    * easy highway access
    * minutes from downtown
    * knowledgeable helpful staff
    * family friendly setting
    * bountiful food court
    * wide open walkways
    * 24-hour surveillance
    * professional onsite management

    Yikes, this exercise is harder than it first would seem! Well, they can't all be winners. Good luck.....

    WOW Paul, you hit just the right spot – thank you! You are absolutely correct, this list will save time and apart from that, it will help my smaller clients who can’t afford for me to go and do a full marketing survey.

    Thank you for taking the time to help, your list is impressive – you get my points!

    This is an ongoing project for me so if anyone else has a selling point or two to offer, I’d be grateful, in the meantime, here are a few more inspired by Paul’s list.

    * extensive brand choice
    * convenient central location
    * state-of-the-art technology

    Thanks again Paul
    Regards
    Laura
