How Do I Market Financial Services?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am a new resident of Atlanta, GA and new employee of a very established Mortgage company. I'm a Junior Associate and I do not know anyone within the area to build my first prospect list. We offer a wide range of financial services targeting the middle to lower class with a motto of "No Family Left Behind". I want to run with that. I want to help the 92% of Americans left in a spiral downward. Where do i begin? flyer's, Cards, Adds?? What do I need to do to pull in my first clientele so the word of mouth can carry? Desperate need of advice to get my new career jump started in the right direction within a timely manner.

I agree with Steve. Build your base of friends. Are you limited to Atlanta? Think who your best candidates are-- and go where they are. You have to differentiate yourself and be lazar sharp in your focus. While you are in the line to buy groceries, start up a conversation with the person behind you and hand out your card. A face to face conversation sets you apart farther than an anonymous ad next to several others doing what you do.

In addition to attending networking functions, you can prepare a non commercial presentation and do some public speaking. However, I'd question anything on the "92% of Americans left in a spiral downward"-- that isn't accurate. Are you in a downward spiral? I certainly am not and neither is my business.

A friend who lives there ironically sent me a NY Times article on the foreclosures in Atlanta yesterday. This is due to the ARM's. It also stated that many people from out of own are snapping up some of these homes. Those are two opportunities. There is a reason these people can't get out of those ARM's-- their over inflated appraisals, dropping prices due to inventory, and bad credit. How can you help them?

If I could add-- some people want to be "saved" (from the downward spiral.

Most people want support and would find the "save" insulting. Tailor your marketing to help -- not save.
