Branding Ideas For New Business Advisory

HI,

I'll be joining a new outfit soon - a business advisory/ consultancy in KL. They've just started out, though the directors have extensive experience as professional accountants.

My job with them is to build the brand. Corporate image, visibility - all that jazz. I'm currently doing PR for a non-profit in the education industry. I dont even know where to start with this new job. Any ideas guys?

    I would start by learning as much as you can about your new industry and your new company. Read, talk to the directors, talk to others in your industry. Become an expert.

    Determine exactly what their business model is and how they want to position themselves.

    Take my "Branding your client or company" course at the University of Chicago-Graham School.
    Google Graham School University of Chicago and find out all the details.

    Start by asking questions and listening: to your new bosses, to the community, and networking opportunities. Find out what is needed (collecting contact information as-you-go) and then fill the need.

    great advice by experts here, my 2 cents are.....

    whatever the business, the brand is a promise that must be supported by the business.

    so what is the core competency of your consultancy business? what do you best in consultancy? based on this core competency you will create the brand name. also talk to your company people as well as customers about what they think your strengths are. i always say, perception is reality, if ur clients perceive that ur strength is in Management consultancy, but you think its accounting then your competency is in reality Management. list the things that must you deliver to your customers before they give/pay you.

    now based on this competency, determine what you want your customers and prospects to remember in their mind as TOM. then decide the medium through which you will communicate to customers.

    finally what is most compelling reason based on which the customers will believe you/your brand.

    Don't forget to read up on the competition .....

    In fact often the first and most important steps to building a brand would be:
    Find out how you are unique, this means clarifying why your company even exists .

    Then based on your strength/s define your target market and the competition in very clear terms.

    Never try to sell to everyone and never take on all your competitors.

    This book is supposed to be good:
    The Discipline of Market Leaders (Paperback)
    by Michael & Fred Wiersema Treacy (Author)

    At least look it up on the net and read the abstract.

    great comments by all! i'd jus like to add that though you ve to wrk really hard in this ( i can sya this as i'm going through same situation ) . be a great observer apart fro learner, ask questions,read lot about your company, competition,browse lot about all your industry and thats all!!!!you re there...
