Obtaining Music Copywrights For Your Website?

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
Hello Everyone,

I am currently interning at a company. We are creating a website to sell our products online and are looking for music that we can use. We have seen that many websites nowadays have playlists.. we would like to do the same- only does anyone know how we can obtain licensing for music use?? Where to go? Approximately how much it costs?
Thank you

Unless your products are music-related, it's probably a bad idea to add the technology. It's distracting and if someone in an office is visiting your site - and should be working - it's a big negative.

Here are some sites for info:

Royalty Free Stock Music is what you are looking for. Run a search on Google there are plenty of providers.

If you don't use royalty-free music, you would have to get permission from the record labels, and it's incredibly expensive. They measure the cost by the number of impressions (or people that are estimated to hear the music).

Royalty-free is the way to go. I've found some decent stuff on Sound Rangers.

I agree with Jay -- you need to use a lot of caution when adding music to your website. It's preferable to have the website load with no music, with a button that a user can push to turn the music on.

    Thank you so much!
Yeah i thought so as well that royalty free would be the best/cheapest way to get music.. but all the music i here from them sounds very "elevator type of music"...
i guess i'll have to keep browsing on those site to hope to find something that sounds more hip and mainstream...

and defn it would be better to have the music either off directly, and/or with an option to turn it on/off
    thanks again
