I Hate My Job - Website

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Hi all. I started a website which is sort of a Public Service and for fun. [inactive link removed]

I am getting a lot of visitors and some are filling out the Poll. They are also sending me tales of horror at the jobsite.
I want to sell some low-priced ebooks and have some fun with this site.

What do you think of the site?
Please give me some feedback.
Thanks ~ Nancy

Try re-organizing the content using a more modern design and layout. There are plenty of free web templates out there for download.

    Nancy,

I think the concept for the site is great and thus the visitors.

The design of the site is not appealing to me. There does not seem to be any flow, just pieces stuck togoether. There needs to be something that ties it all together, whether it is color, or the way things are organized.

I have been creating Joomla (an open-source, read free, database driven website) sites recently and am really happy with templates from www.RocketTheme.com. You can learn more about Joomla at www.joomla.org. Looking through rockettheme's templates may give you some ideas.

Another cool feature you could add would be links to some of the online job sites like monster.com. Especially if they have an affliate program where you can earn some money by referring people. I do not know if any of them do that, but it might be interesting.

Another idea would be to add a forum where people can publically air their job stories (I do not know if there is any liablity here).

    Hope this helps,
    Mike

Oh so haphazzard. No form, no structure. Ug!

I think you would be better off using a Content Managment System too. Joomla, or almost any other opensource system would really extend the functionality of your web site. Some of the add on components would add even more to your site, not to mention cut your web site administration to very little work.

Clean it up, and reduce your workload, then get collecting and publishing more I hate my job stuff. Seems everyone hates their job, you'll have a never ending supply of content.

Add on affilate banner ads from Google ads, Commission Junction and the like, and you may earn some decent revenue.

    Have fun.

The site needs some re-organization, but a "perfect" site may actually not fit for your message - frustration of job. Having a scattered website might reinforce the stress you're feeling.

As for having fun, keep the interaction going. Ask people questions. Ask them to sign up (with their email) for the daily/weekly poll, and email them questions/results. Keep it light, and keep them coming back for more horror.

To make $, you'll leverage the email list to sell your "latest" offering. Consider giving a number of copies away for free each week simply for people completing the survey.

your site is silly and fun.
It is poorly laid out and looks kinda amateurish but I think that works in your favor....

    Here are some points.
    1) get you own url...
    2) remembers content - you need to have lots and lots of content.. doesn't have to be professional.. just funny and on topic
    3) raise the price of your ebooks - i would guess that most people will think they are too cheap to be any good.

I agree with the others that the idea is great but that the design doesn't fit with the quality of the idea.

Look at https://www.despair.com/ They try (and succeed) to be funny in the same way but their site looks great and professional
