Article Ideas For E-newsletter For Librarian?

Posted by Anonymous on 25 Points
Hello,

I'm looking for suggestions for good content articles for an electronic newsletter aimed at the reference/ academic librarian. This would be sent on a quarterly basis to librarians at different schools and universities both within the US and outside.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
TIA!

Good luck with the newsletter. Please let me know if you would be interested in a freelance writer to help develop any of the articles you decide upon. I would love to assist you. Thanks. Here are some topic ideas that could be either single-issue articles or built into quarterly columns:

    "Today's Hot Research Topics"

"What's New in the Reference World"

    Traditional vs. Online Research
    Preparing Students for Both

"Your Role in the Academic Community" (This article could discuss the ref. librarians role in the academic world and provide guidance on how to defend the position of a reference librarian to the rest of the academic community. Tips on how to fit in, speak the academic language, make the right connections, etc.)

    Defending Freedom of Speech

"The Controversial Word" (article on current research topics, studies, items in the news, etc. that are controversial for whatever reason. This could lead into a pro vs. con editorial article on the same topic.)

"10 Things Every Reference Librarian Should Know" (short article on 10 items every ref. librarian should know off the top of his/her head)

Quarterly book review on either a popular reference book or popular fiction book.

"How to Uncover 'Hidden' Facts" or "To Find, or Not to Find" (article on how to find hard-to-find research books, info., etc.

"What to Write" (article with tips for librarian on how to help students decide on research topics)

Series of articles on how ref. librarians can assist students in the choosing, researching, refining, developing and writing of research papers, etc. Could do a different aspect of the process each issue.

"FAQs" (article on the most commonly asked questions reference librarians receive. Could be a fun tongue-in-cheek article or a more series article with tips on things that can be done to help avoid questions over and over again.)

"Question of the Quarter" (this could be a reader submitted article with readers sending in the funniest or most outrageous, or most difficult question they received)
