Do Green Consumers Share Common Hobbies?

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
I'm trying to find information on common denominators between green consumers, other than their shared green beliefs and attitudes.

Does this group have shared hobbies? Interests? Lifestyles? Or is the green mentality the only thing that binds them?

I would guess that bicycling would be a fairly common hobby... based on a recent survey we did for a Renewable Resource Not for Profit.

Other hobbies that showed up were gardening and music... but those are pretty diverse.

I think the common denominator is simply a realization that we impact the environment that we live in. It's the mentality that binds them. I think a key denominator might be that they are conscientious.

People purchase green products for many reasons: health (theirs' or family's), it's politically correct, they care deeply about the environment, it saves money, etc. Since their motivators vary, finding common hobbies will be non-trivial. If you group those with the same motivation for the green purchase, you'll likely find much more commonality.

I don`t think there is a define profile of green consumers yet, most of us are still learning where all this green "thing" come from and some of us do not take any attention whatsoever on it.

Companies are at this present time, the most notorious players helping to bring some green ethics to this world.

That, I can tell you the common interest and the reasons behind, in the near future being "Green" will part of a common colocation in our vocabulary; oh yes I know, but we really don`t.

Apocryphally, knitting whole-meal raffia into anything, such as a computer or as a three course meal and similar are favourites which are both green and popular with greens.

There’s a site which lists green hobbies and pastimes,

    https://www.canadianliving.com/blogs/green/2009/06/19/eco-friendly-hobbies/

Where my joke seems to be born out!

If you do a Google search on “Green Hobbies Environmentally Friendly” you get half a million pages, so that could be a decent starting point.

By the way, if you do decide to do a survey to discover the actual figures for yourself (I too haven’t found one) the results would be worth a fortune to companies marketing to those criteria.

    Best wishes
