Long Sales Letter

Posted by stranger on 500 Points
Hi guys,

How can I personalize a long sales letter (medicine for dogs)without being unethical? What are the guidelines? Can I write it on behalf of a fictional pet owner? How far can I go to personalize it while being ethical?

Have been asked to write on behalf of a vet doc, but that's too much of a stretch, I feel...

Thanks in advance!

If you ask that you also hav to ask how ethical you have to be in accounting or any other area. PERFECT. That's the answer.

That said, you can write a story, asterisk it and explain it is a compilation of serveral stories you received.

Long letters seldom work. You are better off writing about the practice and driving them to your website. That's how you'll determine ROI.

    Phil,

Thanks for your response. It is very much along the lines of what I was thinking as well. However, do I need to include a disclaimer somewhere?

    Clearly, I am a bit green : )

It wasn't intentional. Do I need to repost the question?

I don't think you can ever rule out long copy, whether in print or online. You certainly can't declare it dead.

We use long copy in certain emails quite successfully (I'm talking 8-12 pages' worth in Word). We also use long copy in landing pages successfully (again, like 12-18 pages worth of copy in Word).

All depends on what you're trying to do and for whom.
