Idea Copywriting?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I have an Idea I want to copy write for a television channel. A whole channel dedicated to well can't tell you that. Of coarse I don't have the start up for this. So I was wondering if I could copy write the idea and shop it to tv networks. What's the best way to go about this and is it possible?

    Dear mercadojn,

Copy writing (the writing of copy), and copyright (the right to prevent unlawful duplication) are two different things. You need
    the second one.

All art work, photography, music and written material, including book manuscripts, scripts for theatre, television, and the movies are automatically covered by the copyright laws of the country of residence of the originator.

If you live in the United States and you feel you really MUST file an official order to protect your work, you can do so through the U.S. Government at www.copyright.gov/register/.

You'll also find the basics of copyright law here: https://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.pdf

As for pitching your script, this site might help you:

    Good luck.

Ideas are easy to generate. And existing creative businesses seldom accept pitches from the "outside" - for fear of lawsuits ("you stole my idea"). Even if you have an awesome idea, what is the worth of it? Someone else has to develop the idea, hire talent, pay marketing, insurance, and otherwise take on all the risk.

Your best bet? Create your own TV show, film it yourself, and build a package of episodes to shop around. I'm doing that with my TV series Business With Passion and learning a lot in the process.
