Yess, an RSS feed can be a great asset to an e-commerce site. Just make sure the content is updated regularly and relevent to your business.

You can you it to announce weekly specials, coupons, incentives for subscribing to a newsletter, etc.

    I hope this helps!

    Good Luck!

    Hi Damien,

The short answer is absolutely, and more and more companies are finding this out everyday.

SteveB, on of our top experts here, posted a question yesterday on RSS/XML.

The resulting answers provide some great informaion and links, including one on increasing Google ranking through the use of RSS links.

As has been noted by others, RSS is still far from mainstream, so I would guess that it's not going to deliver your objectives in the short term. Maybe a couple of years down the road you'll be glad you started now, but I wouldn't expect much additional traffic in the short term, and it will probably take quite a while to payout the effort.

All of this is my preface to asking exactly what success looks like for you -- including the timeframe. If you are looking for increased traffic in the next 3-6 months, I'd be looking for better search-engine optimization, perhaps Google Adwords, other marketing approaches that are working now -- not futures.

If, on the other hand, you have the luxury of time -- say, 2-3 years -- RSS is probably a good thing to be exploring.

    Hope this helps.
