Question

Topic: Website Critique

Which One?

Posted by Thatbeit1 on 250 Points
I am on my last round of visions...I need a vote and/or opinion.

My web site is over plus rx .com. Just put these togeter with no spaces (otherwise my question shows up in search).

I am debating if I should add a testimonial video/demonstration of our cleaning process video to this page or I should add a flash of the car demonstrating the services we offer.

    Dear Thatbeit1,

Your site https://www.overplusrx.com does not show up in Safari
or Firefox so it's impossible to tell from the site alone.

However, with 170 million US Internet users having watched 31 Billion videos in November of last year, go with video. Many people have issues with Flash and search engines either find it difficult to read or impossible to read.

The other thing is that testimonials add vital social proof: we want to be like people that remind us of us. This means testimonials carry a great deal of weight and apply a lot of leverage to like-minded souls.

I hope this helps. Good luck with your new site.

Went to the site "www [dot] over plus rx [dot] com" (no quotes, no spaces) and couldn't find it. You might want to try again to explain how to get to your site.

Why not A/B split test to see what works best for your website visitors?

Unfortunately, I do not get very much traffic because of the industry. I will get very little response on my call to action. However, I added it just to get the most out of my website.

The majority of the people who view my website will look at it and if they like what they see they will put me in their file to "call" me when a job comes up...this is not a service that is an ongoing need. It is more of a emergency response. The website for the most part to planting a seed in their mind for a future purchase.

Hence, I do not think a accurate or insightful gauge on which home page convinced them to put me in the "file".

    Dear Thatbeit1

    Red alert! Red alert!

"Unfortunately, I do not get very much traffic because of the industry."

    Nope, it's not the industry.

"I will get very little response on my call to action."

    Wrong philosophy.

    Here's why:

Your statements above both lay the blame elsewhere, but the burden of responsibility for the success or failure of your marketing lies with you. Only with you.

You don't get very much traffic because of your MESSAGE.

And you get little response to your call to action because it does not TELEGRAPH PRIMARY BENEFITS to the COMPULSIONS of your customers.

Fix these two things and you'll see better results.

If the website isn't the primary source of new business for you (i.e., if that's not how most of your customers find you), then it probably doesn't matter which of your website enhancements you choose. It might be better if you re-think your marketing strategy, and the overall marketing mix, to find a vehicle/medium that WILL result in good business development.

For example, if your best source of business is insurance adjusters, then you need to learn how they find out about products/services like yours. Etc. Sure, you need a website ... but it may not be terribly critical whether you have it optimized with video and/or Flash. There's nothing wrong with video, of course, but you might get a bigger bang for your investment of time, energy and money by directing your attention elsewhere -- to the high-leverage sources of new business.

Thank you everyone for all your assistance.

Garry...probably 80% my key customer base (painters/insurance adjusters) come to my site to the site due to my direct selling. Insurance adjusters NEVER send emails they call directly and painters...I would estimate I will be lucky if they send an email over calling me 1-2x's a year.

The claimants are the most likely people to respond to any of my calls to action and truthfully I do not want their business...I want the leads they may generate for me via the cash reward program.

I think CASH reward is about as alluring as you can get. They tell me about a claim they are part of and get free money. Imagine if someone told you you will get free and clear money for telling me you were in a car accident...up to $2000.

This site is really to lend credibility and possibly some leads from the claimants. My competition has never tried this tactic and time will tell if it pays off....painting season is just around the corner.

Both are great (no I'm not dodging the question).
Consider these factors in making your decision.

    1) Which one can you produce best. A great flash will smoke a mediocre video every time. Flash is easier to produce, especially when it comes to acting talent, shooting, editing, etc. If you can do an equally good video, go with video, if not, go with the flash (btw, a lot of video is in flash format, but you get the idea)

    2) Depending on format, video can consumer a lot more bandwidth. Check the data requirements (full file size) for both finished approaches and consider your ability to deliver the goods. A good flash always beats a slow-to-load video. If they are of equal size or you have some serious server power and bandwidth, video wins.

    3) testimonials are great, but even a slouch like me can supply 3 great references on demand. If you have a unique process that is hard to demonstrate on video, then go with the flash when you can explain some of the magic that goes into your highly-scientific and very unique methods.

As you can see, I favor the flash, but if you have the resources and budget, go for the video.

    Best of Luck, JohnnyB.

On the Yahoo store your "add to cart" button is a visual hot spot- on the other it fades into the background. Also on the yahoo store your product info looks like ... product info while on the other it looks more like a glossy magazine article (which might be overwhelming or cause visitors to glaze over). Though I have to say I love the use of white and simple yet very beautiful design used on both.
