Using Musicians And Lyrics In An Article

Posted by Anonymous on 20 Points
I am the editor of a budding fashion and entertainment magazine. I recently decided to integrate music into the flow of the magazine starting with an article listing our picks of influential and inspirational music. Can I do this legally and include the lyrics and names of the artist?

Here's a relevant article for you (athough a bit dated, the legal recommendation appears to be sound): https://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=18309

That helped tremendously. Thank you. In case anyone else is looking for the same or similar answer the link posted above is a great resource. I assumed because it was publicity for the artist it would be ok. I'm glad I asked first.

    Dear Editor,

When in doubt, don't use other people's content.

It's NOT a breach of copyright to use an artist's name. But it IS a breach of copyright to use an artist's lyrics OR music (or both), without the artist's permission, or more to the point, without the permission of the copyright holder.

    I hope this helps.
