Best Ways To Pass Out Business Cards?

Posted by Anonymous on 25 Points
I'm a freelance graphic designer with a website and business cards. I'm looking for ways to pass out business cards to companies to get help get the word out.

I was thinking of passing out business cards by leaving them on local business doors, leaving a few at stores that allow you to display them on their counters, and local grocery stores and coffee places will have community boards where you can post up ads.

Any other good ideas? I know you can't put them in or on mail boxes, so that's out of the question.

Be sure your cards are in the hands of people who will use and refer you. If your design work is impressive, I promise you that people will share them and word about your talents will spread.

The means of distribution isn't the key. The quality of work is.

What you are doing is called "card drops".

My experience coincides wtih Phil. Its too passive to get results. Instead of leaving those cards on the business door-- open that door and introduce yourself. And when you have a set appointment, make a cold call to the door on the left, right, or both. But you've already driven and parked. Go the extra mile.

I remember a sales book where the sales person of the year was asked "what did you do to succeed" She said, the "door on the left"-- everytime she made a call, she called on the door on the left.

Google Blitz Call. It's a great training program in this. I don't sell it but I have been trained in it and refer to it often.

Make a plan of both passive and less passive sales tactics. Ok, you'll do 10 card drops, now also commite to 5 F2F.

Have a conversation with someone likely to use your services. Don't try to sell them anything, do an informational interview to find out what they look for, when, what services they use, who in their organization looks, what they see in your services, etc. Then, target other similar businesses with this detailed information.

jay has some great advice for you. The first call should be information gathering. You don't know what to sell him until you know his needs.

To help get some ideas for prospects , visit industry trade shows, job fairs, chamber of commerce and/or municipal business fairs and the like to check out what various businesses are currently using for their graphic images, then, you can either choose to do the 'card drop' technique or attempt to meet with those with whom you feel you can make an improved difference for to show them your portfolio. Image portrayed by graphics is still an important part of any business' branding strategy.
