Kirsty - for a simple ebook, you will just need a word processor that will give you a front cover, headings, pics and page numbers. I use Microsoft Word or Publisher offline and then convert to Adobe Acrobat to make a pdf. It's a very simple process and I use them all the time.

Google docs is a good free online word processor. But I have always found it quicker and easier while traveling to type and format offline and then convert to pdf as you are not reliant on a signal.

www.cutepdf.com is a free pdf converter if you don't want to pay for Adobe Acrobat.

The problem with bespoke ebook software is that you only discover the restrictions and limitations after you have paid. There are so many out there that you may have to go through a few before you find what you are looking for.

I use a cheapo netbook with all my software loaded on that. I can then take it anywhere as it's so light. I set it up with a bigger keyboard bought at the location. But then I stay places for months at a time.

    Hope that helps,

    Peter

I'm not sure you need special software. What kind of eBook are you writing? Who is your target audience? Who is going to buy the book? Where? Why not just use your favorite word processor?

    Dear kwertz,

If you you use an online service, or if you make your book into a PDF in Microsoft Word, your e-book will look just like every other e-book.

If you'd like your book to be unique to you and to be branded so that it reflects your style and the tastes of your readers, let me know.

As a graphic designer with over 20 years experience in design for print I'd be only too happy to help you look wonderful.
