Item Title Best Practice

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hi

I am looking for some advice on the best way to structure a product title for on site search benefits.

Should a title be -
Colour, detail, Product name?

Product name, detail, colour?

Example being - Navy and green, Striped, Polo

Or is the structure of title totally dependant on the phrases people will use to find it?

I know for the likes of eBay they have a Brand, Gender, Colour, etc ... structure

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Brad

Brad - we run a number of websites and we chose the name based on the popular search terms.

For example, if you search for 'Best Practice Marketing' our website comes up on page one. We choose the search words, but if they are already taken, we change the order of the words, so 'Mexican Hammock' becomes 'Hammock Mexican'.

Google shows the popular search terms and if the colour is there you should include it. You have to be creative with your name to find one not already taken.

Hope that helps because it certainly works for us.

I would use the item name first. People tend to search for designers or specific products. Like "Nudie Jeans" or "Polo Shirts"

They tend to decide on color after seeing what is available.

If your products have designer names it is good to highlight that designer. Serious buyers search by designers as in "ada wrap belts".

Most shopping carts are built like this "Product Title - Descriptions" And then color and size are generally selectable as variables.

This will be good for customers and it works well for SEO. By the way, be sure to add your products to Google's base. I think it is called Google Merchant now.
