How To Start A Small Marketing Business?

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Good morning. I am currently researching the best way to start my own marketing/advertising business and could use some assistance. My BA was Public Relations and minor was Marketing but since college i have not used my degree. I have ended up in the construction industry(as a lot of college grads do due to economy). Just recently i have been approached my a few local business curious how i could help increase their in-store traffic and business. I am know trying to take this to the next step and actually start my own firm(for lack of a better term cause it's just me). I was just curious about the best way to go about this. I am in Kentucky. I have probably the best business contacts one single person can have but not sure about the direction. Help?

My advice, don't quit your day job-- yet.

Having people ask you how to generate more sales and their paying you to do that can be two different things. Take a job or two on the side and some of your questions will answer themself.

I also suggest doing a few jobs gratis so that you can get some success stories under your belt before you start to market yourself as a marketing/advertising expert.

Also, you said that your degree is in public relations. While related, it's a different line of thinking than marketing and advertising. You want to make sure you're doing one and not marketing the other.

    1. Spend some cents to invite your friends who working in the marketing in your area some cups of coffee. Because these friends are understanding what the market needs in your area.
    2. Spend some money to give your business on the local newspaper.
    3. Use free marketing on the internet
    4. If you can have enough finance, rent a person to help you. Should choose experience for 3 month enough.
    success to you
