Need Copy To Promote New Book

Posted by rum68br on 500 Points
I need some help in writing copy for a book that I am currently promoting. The book is self help and is all about a women journey through different religious concepts to find inner joy.

I am struggling to strike a balance between sales and descriptive based copy. Can anyone suggest a structure that I can use?

Thank you

Think about the people who will read this book, what are they thinking, what questions are they asking that this book answers? Start with that and most of your other questions will fall into place.

Then test. See which the customers prefer. After all, they're the ones making the choice to purchase.

It all depends on who your audience is. If you're trying to sell it to bookstore owners, you need to convince them that you have a story worth promoting/sharing. If you're trying to get people to read it, you need to focus on the value/message that you'll be imparting (and if they like that message, they'll be tempted to read the rest).

To start with, you might gather some people together (friends and/or colleagues). Give a 3 minute presentation to them about the book's story/message. Then, ask them to tell you what they heard/remembered. These memories are likely your best approaches to begin your promotions.

Where is this copy going to show up? Who is the target audience? What do you want them to do?

Book marketing isn't like most other marketing. There's no repeat purchase by end-users, even if they like the product. New books generally disappear from view within 12 months. Customers don't really know what they're getting until they've invested considerable time and attention after the purchase. Successful sales depend on the author's skill and effort at promotion. And the author knows he/she is not likely to make much money from book sales (even when it's self-published). So it's really important to understand the objective very clearly before you start writing copy.

Once you get past the objective and strategy, there are a couple of books you may find helpful:

Your question could have been titled ... "How To Get Book Reviews From Credible People".

The balance you're looking for should be found when you present the book's Unique Selling Proposition; and demonstrate how the book will hold women "by the hand" as it shows them the path to religious inner joy.

Please let me know if you need more help. I wouldn't mind writing the entire sales copy (for zero dollars on your part) for you since I have just joined MarketingProfs and I would like to sow a positive seed.

    Kind regards,
