Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Ideas?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
The Marketing department I intern in is responsible for a ribbon cutting ceremony. The ceremony is for a brand new science building located on campus. I am looking for alternative ideas to a actual ribbon being cut at the ceremony. The building will service biology, chemistry, pharmacy and nursing students. The budget is unknown at this point so think freely.

I have seen liquid nitrogen used to break a ribbon but i prefer something more creative!

You could have a line of nurses with the ribbon tied as bows around their necks?

Here are a few to think about ..

    1) Cutting a vine(s) instead of a ribbon
    2) Planting a special tree
    3) Launching a hot air balloon
    4) Unveiling of an art sculpture
    5) Safe and sane fireworks display

As it is opening of science building, go for something sci-fi. Like you can have virtual lady projected on a card board at the entrance and she is providing key feature of building and then asking the invitee to cut the ribbon. Above Steve has given a great idea - cutting a vine instead of ribbon.

    Cheers!!!

Who's the ceremony for: donors, faculty, students, community?
How long has your science building been around (in one form or another) - can you make a line of former graduates to create a chain of memories/history?
