Im currently starting my own business, I have started several social media pages/accounts aswell as a website.

What would you suggest I do to help increase traffic to my webpages and social media pages?

I would like to start my own thread also on the business page, but not sure exactly how to start this?

Firstly well done for starting a business. It's not an easy thing to do in this day and age.

Traffic to web pages. Well for a start, you don't want any Tom Dick or Harry. You need those people who are both interested in how you do things, need what you do and are prepared to pay for it. All of this comes down to analytics - and refining your analytics with the effect in mind (that is to say, results) is crucial. You need to dig deeper and in your case, uncover the live data that tells you where your buyers are coming from. (Portion of message deleted by Moderator)

The best way to do this is to use the Google Display network - a fantastically powerful and flexible tool that you can bend and twist to practically any demographic you choose. If you're in the US the new Facebook algorithm is a dream (grr! I'm in Europe and waiting!!). You can visit Perry Marshall's https://isfb4me.com to see if your business would do well on Facebook. Even if it doesn't, the information you gather about your leads will be extremely valuable.

With this information you can target them on Facebook, Twitter and using SEO as well, all reverse-engineered to your exact needs.

As to threads on Business pages, I'd need to know which websites we're talking about. Facebook? Linkedin? Or your own website (in which case you'd have to tell me which CMS you're using - I have some experience with Wordpress).

Does this get you started? Cos if it does, you're in good company - me! I'm a newbie too.

It's great! I think Social networking strategy is far easier than managing traffic.

    Hi all,

I'm sorry for the delay and so grateful for your responses.

I have a background in events marketing and have done this for years, recently a few of my friends and friends of friends have come to me and asked for me to organise their events/marketing. So from this I thought it would be great to start off small and try and get my own business off the ground.

My first port of call was social media as i know how successful this can be, starting with Facebook and then possibly others. Then start my own website and a thread/blog about different events that people would be interested in me organising. I thought this would be a great way to be in direct contact with my customers and potential customers.

I have the experience in events and marketing and am currently doing my masters degree in marketing (no under grad), but i just don't seem to have the confidence to know where to start or that i can make it work, even with a heap of experience. I think just nerves for going out on my own. eikkk!

Again thank you for your responses/suggestions :)

Start by extending what you're already doing on Facebook and Twitter: giving useful information on events planning. Use a business-style page on Facebook and create content that directs people to a blog. You'll acquire confidence by doing it. Thinking about doing it isn't doing it. Doing it it doing it. Take action ... even if it's just a small step each day.

Once your site is up and running, post curated content that links your site to other sites in your niche that are ranking in the top 10 search results for the same kinds of terms you're looking to rank for.

Also consider making short, sharp, personality infused videos about your niche that you then post on YouTube with the key phrases that you want to rank for and be known for.

Facebook sounds a great place to use paid advertising for you. You will get lots of insight into who you're serving, who's choosing you and why. You can feed this back into your SEO activities - SEO is way slower than Adwords or Facebook, so comes low on my list of traffic sources. It's very much an add on, as it were.

You have experience of doing all this - which makes it a lot easier to do again. Facebook advertising is incredibly nimble and brings results fast. More to the point, you'll be able to hone your message through split testing and use these messages in other media (SEO, twitter, youtube and the rest).
