Help With Retailers Exposure In Local Theater

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
Hello

I manage a downtown development organization and we recently renovated a historic theater. I’d like to give our downtown retailers an opportunity to showcase their business in the theater when events are going on. That said, there are far too many merchants to allow them “booth” space or something similar and I don’t think a tradition brochure rack is the route either. I’m looking for creative ideas to offer the area retailers/restaurants. Have you seen anything similar that works or do you have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Surely your offering would be a little more dramatic if it's in a theater ... ;-)

But you do have the luxury of "far too many merchants" - perhaps you could theme their presence according to the shows that are put on? Or would this be too expensive? What about local businesses getting in on the act (sorry ... ) and having themed events in their establishments? All pretty old hat, but none the worse when done with a little flair.

Try using an old Movie House trick,,,bring your ticket stub for a free something (drink, appetizer) or discount on merchandise.

Place in the Lobby 'show' windows, related to play, seasonal, mini billboard menus etc

Old hat or not, easy to place and easy for those 'exhibiting' to track success

Can you create a slide show that highlights a selection of merchants (playing in your lobby, for example)? Can you make it a local business lottery (perhaps even selling tickets) to merchants, for the chance to be the featured business-of-the-month?

If you have too many, can you charge the downtown retailers for the right to have a display (poster, table, whatever you choose)? You could get some income out of it (presumably not a huge amount) and this would let those that find value in it come and those who don't find value in it sit out.
