No Sales - Is It The Website?

Posted by cbwalters13 on 250 Points
We launched our website in late October, 2013. Our viewing stats have been a roller coaster ride, but have been down to the single digits recently. We have had no sales. I know we need to do more promotion, but I wanted to make sure the problem was not the website before we amped up marketing!

At first glance I really don't feel your site is the reason for your lack of sales. I have consulted companies that have had far worse sites and have still generated sales, that being said your site really isn't that bad, it still needs some work but it's functional. Perhaps you should evaluate what resources you are using to generate traffic to your site.

Where were your visitors coming from (if you have analytics)? What did they search for? What % of your visitors converted into customers?

One of the issues with your home page (at least) is that you have a big image, but no alt-tags that search engines like to read. Also, it's not clear at a glance on your home page what you're selling or to whom. Your product images need to be zoomable - so people can see the detailed beauty. If you have images of a model wearing some of these pieces, show these as well - since you often need to see how something looks "on".

Great comments above. Your site could use some improvement, but if you're not getting the traffic it doesn't matter. I'd give top priority to generating relevant traffic. If you have any bandwidth left, follow the suggestions Jay has made.

Of course, in the end you need to do both. Traffic isn't the goal. Conversions are what you need/want. But without traffic you don't have a chance of getting the conversions.

I like the overall sparse look: it suits the material. However, to answer your question, yes: it's your site. On initial inspection there is nothing that clearly states what you do, who you do it for, and what your site is about. Your social media presence also needs attention.
