Personal Emails To Influencers -good Approach?

Posted by jagritiatwork on 100 Points
Hi We have created a mobile and web based active learning tool. There has been a lot of research in the field of active learning which has acted as a premise for our product. To get our beta users on board and to get review and feedback, we are planning to send personalized emails to these university professors who already know a lot about active learning and understand it's importance. The current tools that they are using are both expensive and outdated. We feel that these researchers will understand the problem we are trying to solve and will have more willingness to implement our product. Getting reviews and other users through them will be a bonus. Does this approach seem appropriate?

Before reaching out to influencers, make sure you clearly identify why they'd want to invest their time beta testing your tool. I understand you said that their existing tools are expensive and outdated, but recognize that they've already purchased and are well familiar with the pros and cons of their tool. Is your new tool a little bit better? An order of magnitude better? How can you position it relative to you competition?

Do these professors know, or know of, you? Where did you get the list to which you would mail? Unless these folks have specifically and explicitly opted-in to receive email from you, your email message(s) could well be considered spam -- unsolicited and unwanted email. (How will recipients know you are not scamming them in some way?)

Not a great way to approach this target IMHO.

Before you reach out to ANY professor involved in active learning, take the time to copy edit and grammar check your text.

Thank you for the response. I have taken out their emails from their published papers. Will try to figure out an alternate approach as well. Our tool is forever free for teachers. I think twitter might help
