How are people finding your website?
Do you have any analytics about your visitors?
Your items are lacking descriptions about what's so wonderful/unique about them. Take a look at The J. Peterman Company website for examples: https://www.jpeterman.com

Many thanks Jay, I see what you mean....will be applying to my web site. Can I ask what you thought of the photography?

Just having a web site does not mean you are going to generate sales. Thinking so is like sitting a table and waiting for a waiter to bring you something from the kitchen (even though you have not looked at a menu or placed an order).

Etsy does generate traffic, but there is no assurances that any of that traffic is going to find your page. While i have a passion for Vintage clothes, the only traffic you will see is traffic searching specifically for your products/inventory. You need to promote your page to potential buyers with long and extremely descriptive descriptions, which may get picked up by Google and Bing in their search results, but keep in mind, how many people go searching for 70's vintage fashion daily, let alone monthly? Its a very niche market.

You may have to resort to paying for keywords and drive traffic to your Etsy page, and this expense will be entirely yours on top of the Etsy fees.

    Heeey Rachel2020,

You shouldn't be surprised at all that you have not sold one single thing and it shouldn't surprise you either especially after you read and begin to apply what I share with you below. What I'm about to share with you will be like putting on a new pair of glasses that will slowly bring the fuzzy edges together so you can began to see more clearly. So please pay very close attention to what I'm about to share with you because "If and When" you Decide to put any of the following things below "Into ACTION" your Experiences are going to change.

If you were my client the first thing I would do is talk to you personally about what you are doing and what you have done. It would be hard for me to specifically assume or identify what you are doing wrong until you describe to me what you are doing.

But if all you have done is put up a couple of web pages on Etsy (as you have described above) I can assure you that...if "that's all you have done" then that's just the beginning of what you are doing wrong.

Let me encourage you by saying that it will take more than just putting up a couple of web pages to sell vintage clothes online.

Did you sell vintage clothes offline? And were you successful at selling vintage clothes offline? Or is this your first try at selling vintage clothes or anything online?

In one word I can tell you what you are doing wrong and where you are making the single biggest mistake that most of my prospective Customers consistently make. The one major thing that you re doing wrong is...you are not effectively and consistently Marketing.

Regardless of whether you are offline selling vintage clothes in a storefront or online selling vintage clothes on Etsy...you will have to invest a great deal of your time in Marketing. That's what you are not doing...right now.

The more effectively you market the more you will sell. Peter Drucker said "the aim of marketing is to make selling superfluous. Now if you don't know anything about Marketing you can teach yourself a whole lot in a short amount of time if you are ambitious enough...or you can hire a marketing coach. Teaching yourself takes time...hiring a good marketing coach takes money...but it all depends on how you want to approach it.

Now the strategy for selling online is the same as selling offline. But some where along the path people often think that because they are online and billions of people are online that all they have to do is build a website and the customers will come. I assure you...that's no where near how it happens online or offline. But in both cases the smarter strategic marketer you are the better you do hands down.

The other mistake you are making is that you know your product better than you know your Customer. If you gave me a choice of knowing my product or knowing my Customer...I would hands down take Knowing my Customer over knowing my product. Because in most cases if you know your ideal Customer and that ideal Customer likes the product you are selling "vintage clothing"...I can assure you that in most cases...your customer already knows a lot about the product you are selling.

If you are going to be Unstoppable in this business you must know your Customer better than you know your product. When you get to the point where you know your Customer better than you know your product you'll be well on your way to achieving your personal Goals and Desires.

The next mistake you are making...is you need to know how to effectively market with Etsy to achieve the results you're looking for. I'm sure there are built in aspects of the technology in Etsy that you probably have to pay for in order to use in Etsy at it's highest beneficial level for your business. Find out what that is and learn how to use it like the Rockstar that you are.

Another mistake that you are making is...you have not researched out how the Best and Highest paid Etsy members are achieving their success on Etsy. And if you have researched this out I can assure you that you are not using or implementing what you have learned from them. I would advise you to take what I have shared above very seriously...and go take a DEEP DIVE into these things and that'll get you started. If you have any further questions or if there is anything else I can do for you please let me know. Remember it all get's Better and Easier from here on out...KEEP SMILING

Thank you so much for your comments, Darcy & Deremiah...it's true. I haven't looked at promoting on Esty. I was selling at Portobello Market (London), I got good sales from Industry Designers and wardrobes mistresses, I still keep in contact with these. However "Joe Blog's" wants vintage at a £5 and without going into a song, the stock is worth more than that, and its brand new.
I see I have a huge learning curve in front of me. My back ground is in TV & Film so I better get my "Movie Magic" hat on!
Hey Deremiah how can we stay in touch....I know I'm gonna need more advise...
Many, many thanks to you both for taking the time to respond to me, much appreciated!
May I take this opportunity to wish you a Peaceful seasonal holiday and all the best of luck for the New Year! Rachel x

    Heeey Rachel,

all you have to do is click my name highlighted in blue and it should take you to my profile page. There you will find my email address and my LinkedIn Profile as well as a brief bio. If you send me an email or send me a friend request on LinkedIn that would be the best way for you to stay in touch. If you reach out to me today...I'd love to send you four other most common mistakes made be seasoned veterans in the marketing industry.

I'm sooo Glad you appreciated what I shared with you. Again...if you take action on the information it will bring a tremendous amount of Clarity to what you are doing. As an Award-Winning Fine Artist...I know us right brained creative types learn sooo much more faster through comparison, word pictures, metaphors, and illustrations.

So never see this new experience as a "huge learning curve"...it really isn't. The answers are all around you hidden in our world. As Thomas Edison the Great Inventor was noted for saying "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work."

Remember it all get's Better and Easier from here on out...it's not any more difficult than learning TV or Film so put on your "Movie Magic" hat and Make It Happen...KEEP SMILING
