Requesting Recommendations For Sms Vendor For Opt In Member Notification

Posted by telemoxie on 1000 Points
I am helping to promote my college fraternities ninetieth anniversary. We have traditionally used phone calls, emails, and Facebook messages. But phone calls are kind of out of fashion these days, and we are trying to reach beyond our current Facebook list and email list.

We're thinking about encouraging our members to opt in for SMS message notification. This is all new to me. I apologize if I'm getting the terminology wrong.

We might send between 200 and eventually has maybe is 2000 messages per month to an opt in list.

Would you recommend using SMS messaging for this sort of application?

Do you have any specific vendors would you recommend?

What should I be looking for in a vendor?

You have any specific helpful resources so that I can learn more about SMS marketing?

Have you opted in to any list which you have found helpful, so that I can begin to get a flavor of how things are done?

Thanks so very much, and take care.

To confirm: you're planning to send 200-2000 messages to each person that's opted in, or is the 200-2000 the total number of recipients you hope to opt in?

I'm guessing that we might have between 100 and 1000 of our alumni opt in. We might send 2 messages a month to each person who outs in. And so each person who outs in might receive around 24 text messages over the course of the year.

FYI: I think I will sign up with a free test available from one vendor, I can send up to 300 text messages per month at no charge provided that recipients "opt in" by texting a code to a number. Depending on how things work out, we can expand the program later.

I'll be interested in learning how your test goes. I'm thinking it may not be so easy to get people to opt-in, even though there should be a fair amount of trust.

Also, you can probably stagger your messages so that each month you send to a smaller percentage of the opt-ins.

Definitely test your system (and perhaps give people the option to be notified by text and/or email). Ideally, have your messages be MMS enabled, which can be more graphical (and likely, more engaging).
