I Want To Advertise A Event, How Do I Do It ?

Posted by thusharkodi24 on 250 Points
I work as an intern for a incubation company (start-up), being a faily new company, we haven't had alot of reach, since we can't spend a sh*t ton on marketing, we came up with an idea to lunch a contest/event that would hear out people's idea's and the winners would get incubated and we'd help them take their ideas into something bigger.
But we haven't been able to reach alot of people there too, we sent a bunch of emails to 200+ schools and we haven't heard back from any of them yet. We tried to reach out to friends and ask them to pass the message on but nothing seems to work.
I'd like to know what else we can do to get alot more people to sign up for the contest let the people know that we exist.
Any advice is welcomed.

Ps: we are an Indian startup, and have very less money to spend on marketing/advertisment.

Funding for start-ups is like air for humans. Do you have a business plan? How will the company ever be viable if you don't have enough to generate some awareness among a highly-targeted audience?

Instead of sending out a lot of emails and hoping, why not schedule a meeting with a professor and/or a local entrepreneurial association? Start by learning how these people decide on incubator recommendations, and what would influence them to recommend people to your business. You may have to prove that you know what you're doing by offering your service for free (perhaps to a local not-for-profit or otherwise needy person/group) to create white papers showcasing how your work helped others make money.

Also, remember that it is important to hire an editor. Even for emails.

There are a couple of things your can do.
    1. Make a Facebook page and put the details about the event on the page and then invite your friends to sign up on that.
    2. Try to find out of there is a FB page for Start up for your city, if yes join that and advertise on that.
    3. Try to find if there any whatsapp groups for startups in your city, I was able to find one in my city after meeting a few people who had started a start up.
    4. Go and meet with the heads of colleges, this is a good time for the same and the students are still not coming to the college but the staff are.
    5. Meet with some of the students and find out if they have some whatsapp group of their college, normally they do and ask them to post your message on those groups.

If you've already sent emails to 200 people, it's time that you do follow-up with all of them. In email marketing, you would probably need to send at least 7 follow-up emails to get you first response. Secondly, you can post your stuff on Facebook and LinkedIn groups. Thirdly, if you have any Instagram influencer in your network, ask him/her to share your stuff in their influencer group or put a story on their Instagram page. All this will help you reach more number of people without any cost.
