Best Media For 60+ Clothing Purchasers

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am developing a specialty item of clothing for people, most of whom are older, who have difficulty wearing today's retail products.

I am looking for information on marketing media, distribution vehicles and appropriate sales techniques for reach and distribution.

Are there any studies on how to reach and sell to seniors or physically challenged segments?

Some good advice so far. Don't assume that all people age 60+ have the same needs. You need to be much more targeted/focused than that. Even in the special needs area, you need to be more specific. There are people with memory problems, there are others with arthritis, and there are still others with memory problems. (That's a joke.)

I'd suggest you start by developing a discussion guide and use it when interviewing at least 15-20 people in your target audience. Ask them what problems they have, what they need/want that they can't get today, what they find particularly useful/not useful, where they learn about new products, where they would expect to buy items like yours, etc.

Don't try to sell them on how good your idea is. Just ask the questions and let them talk. Take detailed notes.

Once you have at least 15 completed interviews, review your notes. You will be amazed at how much information you'll have and how useful it is in determining your business and marketing strategies.

    Good luck.

P.S. You didn't tell us what country/region you plan to market in. Is it going to be global? If so, you probably need to expand the research phase to include people from all over the world. That could be a challenge. Maybe you need to start locally and see if the concept is accepted. You can expand later if it is. And if it isn't, you'll save yourself a lot of money and aggravation if you learn the lesson in a limited area.
