Suggestions I Haven't Already Thought Of

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hi all,

A friend of mine has just started up a part time computer services business and recently did a huge favour for me and sorted my pc out. In return I am offering to help out with some of his marketing, starting with his website.

The website is [inactive link removed]

You'll see that it's actually a bit of a mess, needs a fair amount of work to get it looking professional and I have already spotted shedloads of stuff that needs sorting. Can I ask everyone here for their opinions as well, in case I have missed anything? You'll see that some of the pages are incomplete.

So far I have spotted:
Fonts & colour consistency needs sorting
Copy needs to be made clearer (I'm going to suggest using statistics to show how likely these bad things are to happen etc.)
Needs to specify where he operates (inc. by telephone?)
Needs links from each page to other pages so eliminating the need for pressing the back button so much.
Pricing, or at least a pricing structure.
Offer some sort of guarantee.

Anything else?
Thanks

    LAmos,

Excellent stuff so far, something I would like to add is building a common theme around the benefits to the prospect. For instance, play up how valuable their time is and how inexpensive it would be for jubz to do the work rather then to do it themselves. Maybe a savings calculator, and you could have fun with that, showing how many trips to the computer store an average person takes vs. jubz doing it write the first time.

And absolutely, create copy at your audience level of understanding. If you are not writing for the technology community, then never use slag or acronyms. Break descriptions and ideas down to the least common denominators. Depending on your target market, that may be a member of a household whereupon the most technical knowledge about his or her computer is that the power button in the front or back turns on the machine, only because every other electronic device has similar qualities in their home.

    Hope that helps ...
