Opening Ad Agency - Have Question

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am considering opening an ad agency in Jan. 2006 and I am going to present to an investor in October.

My agency will target schools/colleges, offer a online product and specialize in taking businesses from using existing ad agency to an in-house marketing department. (We are like a bridge for that concept.)

My question is how to measure annual revenue based on sales assumptions. I will have three revenue centers; online products, graphic design services, and consulting services. How do I calculate my sales based on these revenue centers?

I have my expenses done, but just need some help with forecasting revenue.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Agencies represent sales as gross income and net income. Gross income is what you bill. Net income is what you keep after paying for vendor services, your own opertional costs and salaries.

You can divide up your gross and net income by line of service, if you think that is useful.

Your revenue forecasting will be a bit of a shot in the dark, based heavily on assumptions.

Look very carefully at the market you are targeting. You may find a niche or an add on service you can provide to their internal marketing capabilities.

    Good luck.

To clarify the colleges are post secondary education; short term career training like medical assisting and dental assisting. I have worked in the advertising/marketing industry for 10 years with four years advertising and promoting these types of schools.
I currently market 16 schools in five states, so I have seen and heard a need for the type of services I plan to offer. I have also been asked by competitors in other markets for advice on promoting their schools. This niche is my primary target and secondary is local business/other industries.

The education industry is very competitive and schools are always looking for ways to increase leads and increase enrollment.

I have read about the way you suggested too. I just wanted to confirm.

Currently my expenses are pretty high for a start up. I have three people plus I need two more for a total of five employees. Sounds like a lot but with the current work load, we need more help. Current work load meaning our client list will start with five schools with multimillion dollar revenue. These are the schools we currently do in-house marketing/advertising.

My idea is to market our services to other schools that don't compete in our markets. The person I am pitching this idea to is the owner of these schools.

Thanks for the feedback. I accept your answer but will wait a little longer and keep the question open. - Falina
