Looking For A Ghost Writer For Librarian E-newslet

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hello,

I am looking into the possibility of having a ghostwriter/ copywriter for our e-newsletter targeted at the reference/ academic librarians market. They would need to put together two or three informative brief articles every quarter. Alternatively, if you could direct me to a website where I can buy these kinds of articles, that would be great too.

TIA!!

    Dear Sujatha

I would advise you to think very carefully about using ghost writers in this particular market. The leading software manufacturers of citation software (Reference Manager and EndNote) and the main large-scale users of these packages (Academic Librarians) are really keen on the ability to verify information which they refer to.

If they find out that you’ve been using a ghost writer to produce articles which have resulted in them taking purchasing or policy decisions, you name will be mud and your reputation made mince-meat of!

By all means use a ghost writer if you are prepared to declare the fact, but even that lessens the impact of your message. These people want original verified information, not spin. (I used to handle Reference Manager for an account)

If you decide to get it written for you, try the CILIP – the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals on www.cilip.org.uk At least they will be as knowledgeable as your prospective customers. The above site has links to the USA and Indian Institutes, so if you want more relevance, you can choose one of them.

If you want to talk to an Indian Expert in the Field, try contacting Sushil Bilaney on https://www.bilaney.com/common/contact.htm

Sushil works out of Dusseldorf in Germany and Sevenoaks in the UK and has been selling Reference Manager for longer than anyone else I know of!

    Dear Sujatha

Thanks for the clarification. I suspect that you will find the ALA or American Library Association on www.ala.org might provide you with the links you need.

Once you’ve got past their basilisk-like icy stare and a tendency to say Shhhh! The members of the ALA are pretty clued up commercially.

In the UK and Internationally I used to use about 25 journals to publicise Reference Manager. If you look up the Library Trade Journals which are published in the USA, you will also come across to exceptionally talented free-lance journalists who can turn their hand to some PR and written articles from a position of knowledge.

I should have thought of that before, but the Journal of the ALA would be a good starting point to find writers. https://www.ala.org/ala/alonline/index.cfm

PS I have some brilliant memories of doing the Marketing of Reference Manager. I got booted out for being wayward and selling to people at inappropriate times and in inappropriate places, such as our stand at conferences or at Breakfast when attending symposia! It’s funny as I thought that selling was the name of the game, but in these circles there is etiquette to be observed!
