You may want to start with an examination of your objective. What are you trying to accomplish with your ebook, and how will you know if you've been successful?

Like so many other products and services, the marketing plan will likely determine whether the project succeeds or not. So once you have defined success for yourself, create the marketing plan that will deliver it for you ... and be sure you start with an adequate budget. Just because it's free to distribute content doesn't mean that the world will beat a path to your door when you post it in a blog or on a website.

FWIW, ebooks have not been nearly the success that the get-rich-quick vendors would have you believe ... at least not for wide dissemination of information -- non-fiction or fiction. Remember Stephen King's failed experiment? If he can't do it, what makes you think a lesser-known author can?
